Bridal sessions are always a favorite of mine—but Caitlin’s at The Estate at River Run in Maidens, Virginia was something truly special. Set against the grandeur of one of Richmond’s most luxurious wedding venues, this session felt like a quiet, elegant prelude to her wedding day—a chance to slow down, soak it in, and celebrate the moment before the whirlwind.
We photographed Caitlin’s bridals in May, just ten days before her wedding at The Maine of Williamsburg. She wore the same custom couture gown from @mirrormirrorbridalcouture in London, the same romantic veil from @kimalphabridal, and had her wedding-day hair and makeup done by the talented @hairbyemilydami and @beautybytiffanyinc. Since this was also her hair and makeup trial day, we made the most of it by turning it into a full portrait session.
Originally, Caitlin and George had booked an engagement session with me, but since they couldn’t make it back to the U.S. in time for photos, we swapped it for this stunning bridal session instead—and I’m so glad we did. With such a detailed, intricate gown, this time together helped us all get familiar with how to handle it (hello, bustling practice!) and it made the wedding day smoother, faster, and more relaxed.
Caitlin’s sister and maid of honor joined us, helping fluff the dress, carry the veil, and laugh with us between shots. It honestly felt like a girls’ day out—with a dash of couture fashion editorial energy.
The Estate at River Run was the perfect location for this elevated session: the architectural details, sweeping river views, and grand interiors added so much drama and elegance. Every corner of this venue feels tailor-made for portraits that feel timeless, regal, and high fashion.
Bridal portraits give us the time and space that a wedding day often doesn’t. No tight timelines. No distractions. Just the bride, glowing in her dress, fully present and centered in the moment.
If you’re planning a wedding in Virginia—or looking for the perfect excuse to wear your gown a little longer—I’d absolutely recommend considering a bridal session. Not only do you walk away with heirloom-worthy portraits, but it gives you the chance to breathe and celebrate your look in an entirely different way.
