Some sessions just feel like magic from the first moment—and this was absolutely one of them.
Angela and Devan were the sweetest couple and the winners of my recent engagement session giveaway. I was so excited when their names were drawn. They’re warm, stylish, and full of joy—and they had such a meaningful vision for their shoot, which made it even more special.
Their session took place in mid-March, right as the first signs of spring were starting to bloom in Georgetown, D.C. We kicked things off in a tiny park near their apartment, where the cherry blossoms were putting on a full show. The soft pink blooms, paired with the cozy, quiet feel of their neighborhood, gave us the dreamiest backdrop for those early portraits.
From there, we headed inside for an outfit change and some in-home photos. And listen… I’m obsessed with couples who want to document their life at home. Angela and Devan’s apartment was decorated so thoughtfully—it truly felt like them, and I love that they’ll always have these images to remember that first space they shared. Not to mention… it’s also where Devan proposed, up on the rooftop terrace, with Angela’s family hiding in the apartment waiting to surprise her afterward! 😭
They leaned into this experience in the best way possible—trusting me fully, going with the flow, and being fully present with each other. That trust made all the difference. When couples give themselves permission to just be—to laugh, snuggle, wander, and take it all in together—their gallery reflects that ease and intimacy. It’s what turns good photos into incredible ones.
After a cozy in-home set, we took a walk around the Georgetown neighborhood, weaving through the alleys and side streets and stopping wherever we found gorgeous light or pops of spring florals. The cobblestone charm of Georgetown, plus the sentimental details Angela and Devan added to their session, made it feel totally unique to them.
We kept everything relaxed and real—just the two of them exploring their neighborhood together, celebrating the beginning of this next chapter.
Planning Your D.C. Engagement Photos?
If you’re dreaming of an engagement session in Washington D.C. or nearby, here’s my biggest piece of advice: trust the process, and trust your photographer. Angela and Devan’s session worked so beautifully because they embraced the moment and let themselves have fun. No stiff poses, no pressure to “perform”—just connection and real emotion, which always photographs best.
Whether you’re newly engaged or just want to celebrate your love story in a way that feels like you, I’d love to help you bring it to life.
